I am planning on buying a dell server (powerEdge T100 ot T300)

I asked the sales person if it supported Ubuntu

She answered me with a list of the OSīs it supported and ubuntu is not listed.

I also heard from a friend that some Dell servers have on the BIOS a restriction that allows only the installation of 4 or 5 OS and ubuntu is not listed either.

My question is to know if it is really possible to install ubuntu server on a dell poweredge machine or not.

I googled my question and what I could understand is that dell servers use openmanage to install the OS and thereīs where the list of OS that I could install is. Not in the BIOS as my friend told me, but Iīm not sure

IF SOME ONE COULD HELP ME I WOULD APPRECIATE IT

THANK YOU

I've put Debian on poweredge servers before (not that model), and it's worked ok. I've helped people on this forum install Ubuntu on various poweredge models, and despite a few glitches it worked fine.

I've found Dell to be fairly Linux-friendly in general, I'm not buying the BIOS restriction story.

I'm currently using a Dell PowerEdge T100 with 8.04.2-amd64 and works fine.

And you can install even without OpenManage install cd, that an option.

But after that, you can try to install Dell OpenManageSA and mptutils to collect informations about your raid status.
