Hi guys, just wondering if WINE already comes with DirectX suppot, or do I have to d-load/install some add-ons or something? Could anyone walk me through the process? I'm using the latest version of WINE I got via the package manager.
(I'm using Xubuntu 8.10) :p

It does, but if you want to play "Games for Windows" you will save yourself a lot of grieve by playing them on Windows.

The games i'm wanting to play are fairly old, early 2001-2002ish, so I don't think they have the latest 'Games for Windows' labels on them or such. The game i'm really trying to play is Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura which is in the WINE AppsDB here (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=2446).
I think it requires an older version of DirectX...i'll have another go @ installing and running it with the wine Arcanum.exe -doublebuffer -no3d command.

Yes, it comes with full support for DX8, almost fully supports DX9 (I think) and currently it supports a little of DX10.

Yes, old games have usually many chances of running in Wine when compared to the latest ones.
