how to set a wireless connection???

I've recently installed ubuntu 8.10 on my new msi pr601 laptop.
I have trouble with setting a wireless connection to home network (through a router). The thing is I don't have an idea of what to do....
is there a way to scan the wireless networks in my area????

do i need to install something, or rather the wireless card should work in ubuntu without any driver????
