Hi

I am having some trubble with steam/CS i run it via wine 0.93 but i got some pretty nasty fps dropps, i dont really know what to about it, i thouht that you guys could help me? all kind of tips would be great. i have read some of your post and howto´s and found them really good.

Hardware:
AMD 2400+Athlon
512ram (soon 1024)
GForce4 4800ti 128mb
To weak?? :/

System:
Ubuntu 5.10 bre..
Wine 0.93
Steam/Counter strike (lowfps cfg, just in case)

I am at work now, so i cant get some logs or prints from my system until later on tonight.

My Gforce works good, atleast i think so, Q3 runs at no problem on stabel 125fps, but when i run CS i have about 99fps when standing still but as soon as some shoots or i move it dropps to 40fps :/ not so fun.

Is it time to try cedegaCVS? or should it work fine? i am kind of lost.

/best regards
Ludzter

40fps? I may be wrong but I thought the 'acceptable' standard was 36fps lol about 15fps or below is horrifcally jumpy

Its "impossible" to play with 40fps, if you are used to play 99fps in win. :/

What are your pixel shader settings in "winecfg" ? What about your graphical settings in counterstrike? see if you can turn down something which may help...

Wine doesn't have complete directx like cedega does; you may want to give cedega a shot. They have a 15 day trial; give it a shot and see if you get the framerates you want.

Also dude you say u have a:

AMD 2400+Athlon
512ram (soon 1024)
GForce4 4800ti 128mb

Well I have a:

AMD 2800+Athlon
768ram
GForce4 5700FX 256mb

and I doubt I got 90fps in counterstrike. (Altho thinking about it, it was quite quick, so quick in fact it used to lag everyone else lol)

Sorry, pointless post... Try cedega, looks good just try and avoid the CVS version. Its like running ur foreskin through an automatic cheese grater. Full versions only £3 a month as well!
