The alpha4 release of the Jaunty GTK Theme Impression is available for download and testing.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Jaunty/Impression

Please note this theme is based on the svn136 version of the Murrine engine which will need to be installed in order to test.

This engine may break other older Murrine themes.

Screen shots available for those who are curious.

I would say the 3d standout in the window toolbar is extra, but I would definitely vote for the theme overall. With different icons, of course.

Sorry but IMHO those little round things for the window functions are sorta ugly.

If I wanted balls on my titlebars I would use buy a Mac.

And currently they're squares, so you should run Windows?

I, personally, hate the color scheme. I would be much happer if Murrina Nine Human III made it instead (see here (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Nine)).

Your mockup looks nice, but if this were to move to theme development some guidance would be needed on how to present metacity.

What is your vision for this?

Wow thats good! I would be very happy if either of these are the jaunty
default.

So is that screenshot a mockup or does it really look like that?

Really looks like that. It's quite nice, actually. I think the author said it was made as an out of the way theme, not a theme which screams for attention.

Ditto. Murrina Nine Human III looks much better.

For those who remember the Dawn of Ubuntu background, I used that artwork as my inspiration for Jaunty.

Cheers!

Good Stuff! I like it :)

I liked NewWave, but in the end found problems with telling which window was active in the list a pain and poor results with OpenOffice led me to Impression.

I find it simple, elegant, intuitive and focuses my attention on the content as it should be.

One issue I have is that when I highlight text in the URL bar of FireFox for example, the organe like colour is not deep enough for me. I would prefer black, same with black for the text of the active window in the window list. Or some other more noticeable colour.

Thanks

On feedback here Ive also tried the Murrina Nine Human III. It is an improvement on Impression for me in terms of easier usability with active windows in the window panel and highlights in areas such as the FF URL bar.

However Im still using the Impression window border as Nine didnt have one and Impression is good IMHO.
