I downloaded the tarball for the latest version of gtkpod (0.99.14) and installed it according to these instructions:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CompilingEasyHowTo

That all seemed to go fine. It installed without a problem I ran checkinstall after and it appears as installed in the program manager. It also shows up in my programs list, but with a question mark where the icon should be. When I click on it the cursor changes to a little ipod, hangs around for a few seconds and then disappears. I rebooted after installation.

Any ideas as to what might be wrong? Is the installation corrupt? Should I remove and try to reinstall again?

EDIT: Sorry, my mistake I should have read the install document properly. I'd delete this but I can't see how.
