I took the plunge tonight and installed Ubuntu on my desktop PC tonight, depsite all the "Issues" I had with it on my laptop. My desktop PC is my preide and joy as I built it myself to my needs.I wanted to get to know "Breezy" a lil bit before introducing her to the family if you know what I mean.

"Breezy" took very well too the family. EVERYTHING WORKS!!!!!!!! I about pooped myself. EVERYTHING (Except gaming) I can now do in Linux, I still have to learn alot but for now EVERYTHING works. Thank you to the devolopers and the community for all the support and helping me get excited about learning a new OS. I have a couple small things to rectify due to user error and I will post it here and in another thread. Thanx again!

glad to hear everything is going well for you, and yes, the developers and community have done great. if only they can work on making people not poop themselves.

Ubuntu works great for gaming as well, but I guess it would depend on what games you want to play. I'm playing America's Army, plus zsnes is great to have installed. I also have Quake 4, Unreal Tournament 2004, and Battle for Wesnoth (very nice turn-based role-playing/strategy game... think Warcraft III) to round it. That's not counting the games that you could possibly make work under Wine or Cedega. I'm looking forward to seeing if Elder Scrolls: Oblivion will be able to work under Wine/Cedega... if that works out then I would end up being a total bum for at least a month when that game comes out. I think that's a good thing.

I play quake 4 and UT99 and Ut2K4. I honestly haven't delved into the gaming side yet. I know from a ppost I made before the games I play were ported to linux or I can download some files and get my Windows versions working. I will have to look into that later. Thanx,.

re: Gaming -- don't forget enemy-territory! Fun, moddable, and runs natively.
