cdrom not detected/Partition questions

I got me an old Imac DV G3 600Mz

I finally was able to get the cdrom recocognized via another poster, but I ust have done something incorrect with the partitions as it is taking forever for the installer to run. BTW I got hung up trying to reconfigure the partitions. I am not going to be dual-booting this just want the ubuntu 8.10 by itself. Should I reinstall tiger to fix the hard drive and then try to install again? any help would be great!

You don't need macosx. I don't know which error you did. When you make the partitions, just let the installer do it for you.
After installing, you will most probably have problems with your video.
First type at the first prompt: video=ofonly nosplash
Second look at similar thread to edit your file /etc/X11/xorg.conf
