in this treadhttp://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1026418 i was hunting for a laptop which i found and i posted the specs there in this tread.

it works with no problems other than sound is a bit low and honest it do not like skype that much. i was planning on from the very beginning to use it for personal laptop which should be able to use as audio recording and for programming and when i go to the hospital with my kidney disease.

which it is absoluttely perfect for other than the sound card no matter what should be replaced somehow. i play acoustic instruments and have a studio at home but no drums but i wat to be able to record in a real studio i can borrow. no latops other than mac are known to be sold with hardware to match these demands and i knew that before investing it.

so having ubuntu find the wireless and working webcam straight out of the box was a blessing. i am afreid it will take a good deal of hacking to make it suitable for running a audio recording studio using debian lenny so i consider right now just to keep ubuntu in it and focus on a good soundcard as ubuntu fits just right in this laptop for all other things than recording live drumsessions:)

any suggestions to how to do this both cheap and a bit proff sounding also. i am still only a hobby songwriter but i want it to be as god as i can afford.,
thanks for the time.

Hi, I would look into an m-audio FastTrack usb device, around $80, but google it with your linux distro, laptop details, soundchip, motherboard chipset, and words like problem, failed, working, configured, alsa, jackd,
an $hour$ well spent! A much spendier version has 8 inputs and midi, if you want to mic 6 drums as individuals and 2 for the full kit.

thanks.
i lost track of the post i been having some eyetrouble lately so sorry to get back so late.
i am using technically the ubuntu studio since i run intrepid ibex but installed the ubuntu studio kernel. i am planning on maybe getting the 64studio dsitribution on thelaptop but not as right now.

this soundcard you mention seems like a good inventment so i am going to look into that one. i think i maybe can find something rather cheap if i can find it used.

thanks for the time.
