I'm wondering if there is any way to get Leopard to recognize and mount my Ubuntu partition? (and vice versa, would be nice as well)

I installed something called EXTfsManger which I read would enable me to do this. But when I try to mount the Ubuntu partition from the prefernece pane I just receive an "unknown error" message.

Has any other application been written for this purpose?

work on that driver ended long ago. It is not very reliable. I do not know of any alternative.

Ubuntu can mount your OS X partition by default. Check under the Places menu.

Paragon Ext2/3 FS for Mac OS X ($39,95) to be installed on
the Mac partition works perfectly.
You can download a 10 days trial from:
http://www.paragon-software.com/home/extfs-mac/

By the way I strongly recommend also the free download of:
CampTune for Mac OS X:
http://www.paragon-software.com/home/camptune/
In tandem with gParted, CampTune allows to do resizings without reinstallations of double and triple boot Macintoshes.

Cheers!
