OK, here I am back for more punishment. I want to say thanks to all those who have helped me in the past in other areas of this forum. I am here because yesterday I wanted to log into my WinXP partition and found out that it was messed up and would not even boot. I have slicked the hard drive, setup WinXP back on it and now want to add Kubuntu. I am scared to do it because I have had issues in the past with dual boot systems where one or the other OS just does not work right anymore. I am using a ChemBook laptop with a 250GB hard drive in it. I have downloaded Kubuntu 8.10 DVD edition. How can I do this to keep Linux from messing up my WinXP install? The last time I did this I lost NTLDR and WinXP would not boot at all. When someone showed me how to fix the problem, then WinXP was all messed up and had lost files, folders, etc and was not useable.

When you installed XP did you leave any blank space on your hard drive? If you did, when you get to the partitioning section use the manual option to create the partitions on the empty space. Use the default for setting up grub.

That is what I did. I gave Linux 20GB total space and let it setup everything else with defaults and such, or I thought I did. I want to try it again because I liked Linux very much. I went back to WinXP to make a backup of a store bought DVD so the original will to get messed up. I do not know how to do that in Linux yet, which tools to use, which software, etc.

OK, the install is done and so far my WinXP install is working fine. I now have Kubuntu 8.10 and WinXP installed. Thank you for the help. I am sure I will be back for more help as I learn how to use Linux. :)
