I am relatively new to Ubuntu and very new to this forum.. I was using feisty fawn for a lot of my MPI simulations about 6 o 8 months back and my system crashed in the middle.. Started using windows xp, then went to vista, downgraded back to xp, tried to make xp look like mac, but nothing suited me.. Finally now, I have a got a great laptop with good config and thought of trying out ibex.. this was wat i was looking for.. i love compiz fusion and i have got it working.. but im quiet new to this forum.. so could you all help me out here.. i wana know first wat a sticky thread is.. and how are ppl classified here(like taurens, peons and stuff in dp).. and how do i get to know ppl here..

thnx to everyone!

Stickies are stuck at the top of the forum pages - information that admin deem important.

like taurens, peons and stuff in dpno idea what you mean here - but there are a few admins whocan close accounts and stuff, mods who wander around trying to keep it ticking over and the rest of us.

At the bottom of each forum page there's a list of mods.

A lot of information can be found in the stickies in the feedback forum - http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=48

As for getting to know people then use the forum and you will.

Ubuntuforums doesn't rank, and displaying post count is optional. Good advice can come from anyone, regardless of post count, so we don't want anyone's advice discounted due to a lower "rank".

And stickies are general information (guides, how-tos, warnings and other such things). They exist so everyone reads them before posting, to avoid answering some basic questions over and over again.

that will change with the number of posts you make! Works similar to most other forums as well. And i think there is a way of disableing it but i may be wrong

It's just a fun little add-on we have here :)

Also, I moved your thread to Forum Feedback & Help :)
