Ok, so I want to tether my BlackBerry bold with my Ubuntu 8.10 laptop. I started looking into this before runing Ubuntu 7.10 using barry and XMBlackBerry. I recently formatted and updated my laptop to 8.10 and have noticed alot of really nice new features. Now, my blackberry is detected upon plugging it into the usb. I ran the command lsusb and saw my device was connected:
Bus 005 Device 006: ID 0fca:8004 Research In Motion, Ltd.
Here is where the problem comes in. I would like to tether my blackberry and use it as a modem to connect. I've read a few posts on the BlackBerry community support forums where people are saying its possible to do under linux with the Bold.

Now I don't want to start installing XMBlackBerry and Barry and compiling the various libraries and applications to make it work as shown in the post below if Ubuntu 8.10 has native support for this. I've created a new Mobile Broadband Connection and specified my carrier, but i dont know how to initialize the connection. I have already set up the APN TCP settings in the advanced options on the Bold.

Has anyone successfully set up a tethered modem using a Mobile Broadband Networking Connection?
