Ok, so before I found out there was a copy of Darwinia available for Linux, I bought darwinia through Steam. Since I can't find any info on this, I'm wondering if just not many people have tried it yet. Here is my problem, loading the game I get this error:

DirectSound ERROR
C:\Developmen\Darwinia\code\sound\sound_library_3d _dsound.cpp line 309

Direct Sound couldn't create a sound device
Error Code: DSERR_ALLOCATED
The call failed because resources( such as a priority level) were already being used by another caller.

If anyone can help with this sound issue, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I have the CD retail version of the game so I am guessing that steam just downloads the game for you and then installs it on your HDD. If this is the case you can goto the darwinia website (www.introversion.co.uk) and download the linux runtime to play native in linux.

That would require me to purchase another license, which would cost even more because through them you have to buy the box/cd's. The idea of me posting this was to get help making it work under Wine....

The way the Linux version normally works is that you have a Darwinia CD and separately download the Linux binaries from the Darwinia website. I believe he meant that you might be able to use the Linux binaries (available free) with the version Downloaded from Steam. You could try asking for the possibility at the Darwinia forums as well if you can't figure it out.
