Hi.
I have a laptop, HP 9000. In it there is a firewire connection which I was not able to use. I got a firewire connection through express card 34 mm. I have tried to connect my mini dv Sony dcr trv 22e to it. I have put some commands in the terminal such as 'sudo modprobe dv1394 sudo modprobe video1394, sudo modproberaw1394 and sudo modprobe ohci1394'. I use Kino - the message about the kernel not being loaded disappeared, after having typed those commannds, but there was nothing appearing in Kino.
Any help? Do I need some command to make my express card35mm connected first and then to recognize it as a firewire connection? I have tried to connect my camera through USB - nothing. How to do it through USB?

Thanks for you help

Hi there,

I am in the same situation. With a XL2 I can connect to my desktop, that has a PCI slot with firewire. The same thing doesn't handle the same results, as I connect the Cannon XL2 through firewire connected to a LINDY expressCard 34 in my laptop (didn't had inbuilt firewire).

Thanks

Same thing here.
I have a Acer Aspire2920 with Ubuntu 8.10.
My Express Firewire is not recognised at all.
I have a JVC Everio HD cam
Will I really have to return to good old windows ?
Nobody seems to care.

Turns out for me, it was my old kernel (well... that laptop doesn't work anymore, broke the screen... it has fallen :] ). I've figured out that a long time ago, but hadn't had the time to posto. Sorry... good luck with your solutions!
