Hey, seemed this would be the best place to ask for help,

so onto the details:

Me and my friend are beginning a full length movie and i want to go open source, as much as possible. However, some of the equipment we use must be used with that other OS (lol)...

That isn't so much as a big deal as help, i am looking for people who can help in any way by doing research or even helping create some backdrop designs or layouts for the movie.

Right now our plan is to create a horror film, using:
Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum
as a main theme, although no filming... that we now know of, will be done in that building, we want to create something very similar.

As of now we only have one main system for video development, running Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate in Vista(yuck) (anyone know if this will run under Linux in wine? or is there a major lag?)

This is going to be a stressful project for me and we want this movie to astound people, to what we can do as a community of joining in.

All credit will be given where credit is due, and I will talk to you personally if you really want to jump into this journey with us as we explore a semi-new area of filming.

I have not found this done any where else and hopefully, we will come out strong and show what we can do.

I will try to get some type of official web page or if i can scratch together enough money and set up a website.

Like I said, we can use ANY help at all, if your a web developer, you can help set up the website.
if your good with drawings or visual media, we can REALLY use that too.

And anyone who helps out will get a free copy of our final version as a thank you for your support.

Sorta of Lengthy I Know,
But WE REALLY NEED THE HELP!

Thanks,

I would say just face it and work with Windows. I am just finishing an internship with Full Motion Studios, and had to use Windows because 1) not many other people used linux, and 2) Linux's video editing programs are very inadiquite for proffesional work.

I pretty much agree with what the person said above. There aren't that many Linux Programs that are professional as the ones in Windows. You will only find minor editing possibilities in Linux programs.

Your best bets in terms of video editing -- Under Linux would be Cinelerra or Blender.... If you want to do 3d compositing then I would head towards the later. Blender is at least production tested for short films (Plumiforous, Big Buck Bunny, Elephants Dream)... It is also cross platform. Cinelerra is capable of much but is not as stable or friendly as most people would like. It seems to be sensitive to low level issues so some setups work better than others. It built around the idea of doing 3 point editing which is a little less direct than what most people are used to. It is also not a one stop shop.... You will want to prepare your movie for distribution using something else...
Celtx is rather good production planning software. For other hints check out the production pages of project orange and project apricot (try hunting the blender website for links to these) as they were done with all opensource software except for sound production....

One more thing -- I think it is a good idea not to get too carried away on your first production. Keep it short that way you might actually get it done.
