View Full Version : [ubuntu] Lossless screencast with keymap recording controls

I have several screencasts to make, with exclusively solid-color area content, such as with Emacs and an internal web application.

I had decent recording results with Xvidcap, which defaults to MPEG4 (DIVX) .mpeg files, One gotcha was that the default XVFPS setting results in fast playback for the user. I figure I can fix that in voiceover postproduction.

More importantly, though, I think the choice of codec will be important for editing and repurposing the screencast segments. My relatively fast laptop isn't happy with creating bitmaps at a reasonable FPS, but I would very much like a lossless codec for the original source material. Any suggestions?

Also, while I like Xvidcap UI's screen border for my 800x600 target, but the toolbar and lack of keyboard control for record/pause and zoom/mouse-follow is going to detract from the result. Any recommendations there on a configurable low/no UI recorder which could work with the aforementioned lossless codec, with essential screencasting functions mapped to key(s).

Thanks for any suggestions.
