I'm still using warty. I find it's the only ubuntu distro that works with my smp sytem. There used to be backports at mirromax , but even the different archive.ubunu.backports mirrors list warty, but no packages or files. What gives?

Backports support ended for warty a long time ago. That is asking for way too much. Going back that many releases is just too much. Also note that due to the large gap, and therefore changes, between the newest release and warty, most of the packages will just not backport. It's time for you to upgrade.

And it seems strange that smp only works for you on warty. Maybe there is something you are not configuring properly? Have you asked for help regarding this issue on the forums? By your post count (1), the answer is probably no. So start a thread and ask. And search around about how easy or difficult it is to go from warty->breezy. Maybe you are better off doing warty->hoary->breezy.

If you really wanna try pushing it, you could put in the backports for a current release. It would probably mess up a lot of stuff, but hey if you're really desperate and don't want to upgrade.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried hoary, then breezy. Both have crashed my system dual 933mhz with ati 7000 on a gygabyte board ( this was covered in previous threads on the mailing list). Fortunately I have a dd image to fall back on for just these errors. I Have also created a local warty repository from various sources including compatible debian debs.
I was merely hoping that support for a very good distro might have continued.
