New to ubuntu, installed last week, running dual boot with XP Pro. I am running an old i250 cannon printer which does not work with Ubuntu, And I am planning to replace soon. Any recomendations for a printer that wont break the bank, with buying cost or ink cartridges, that works well with Ubuntu. Also any pointers to places for drivers for the old printer, to keep me going for now.

Your one-stop-shop for most Linux printing questions...

You can search for fully compatible printers. Good Luck.

For a new printer, most HP products are well supported under linux.
For the old one, the news is not all good. See this page. (http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Canon-i250)

Cracked it! Got It! I managed to install the drivers and now have a working printer. I used the script here http://gkn.interbrainz.com/i250ubuntu/. I have been trying for a while and coulden't get it to work. This morning I did something I should have done first. I switched the printer of and removed it from the computer. switched it on and started again.
