if anybody hasn't heard of this yet this item works as a mouse mostly for games and ... well as a mouse on its own. it comes from essential reality and to get to the point it's the only thing i have left to install on ubuntu. there is a linux driver in the yahoo groups and as i tried before to follow the instructions to have it installed, i can't get past the 'run p5server from boot time'. i was wondering if i could set it up as a usb mouse 'cause i vaguely use it for gaming, so if anybody knows of it and knows how to install it please help me.

Hi I'm a noobie but this may help, as I personally have no idea and also don't know what searches you have already done. This may not help but if you want to look at these sites they may help you, or not. good luck.

No don't go there you've gotta give credit card info and join etc. before you can even have a look sorry it's a dead end.

I have ported a linux GNU C program from Jason Mc Mullan <jmcmullan@linuxcare.com> that dumps the raw data from the glove. This program uses the [WWW]libusb drivers for linux. Fortunately, some enterprising individuals have ported this package to Windows. I was able to compile the software and with a few tweaks, make it run.

You've probably tried this, I don't know what I'm talking about so I'll stop looking now It looks like it just goes round in circles when you look for things so you've probably been and seen everything I found which all lead back to the same stuff.

It's actually owned by Alliance distrubutors now perhaps they could help you if nobody else here can give you any info on it.

http://www.essentialreality.com/ - they have a contact section at the top of the screen where you could ask although I don't know whether the would help or not.

I won't post anymore. I'm more of a hinderence

i tried searching synaptic and the latest versions of freeglut are installed. so i reached a dead end.

and here it goes... another thing searching for glut. since i've been stuck without being able to get the glove to run and now i tried to play uplink, i get a glut not foud error. where can i get a good working glut that it's not the freeglut3 lib i already have?

I think the trick here is to make the driver use freeglut instead but I don't know how.
