I'm sorry if I sound like a noob, I'm new to this forum and to Ubuntu.

I'm currently trying to install Ubuntu 8.10 onto my laptop.

I've downloaded the ubuntu iso about 3 times and I've tried it with my flash drive and a live cd.

I put the cd in and it asks for my language. I choose english. There is a menu with a few options and I choose to install it.

Then there is a loading screen with this orange bar going back and forth on the screen. A little while later there is an orange loading bar and it starts going up and it stops on the third bar.

I come looking here for answers and I found some people with this problem and they say the bar begins to move if you hold down a key, I go back and try and it doesn't work.

I then go back to the menu on the live cd and press f6 and erase splash and quiet and it begins to do it stuff and a lot of begins appearing.

I wait for the text to stop and it evenually does on [171.159498] cs: IO port probe 0x100-0x3af: clean

I'm sorry if I sound like a noob, but can anyone help me out?

You might want to give the alternate install CD a try. It can be downloaded here:
