Are there good places, and bad places, for Ubuntu downloads..?

Is there a list of recommended upstanding download sites..?

Is there a blacklist of download sites that aren't honest, who do nasty things to your computer..?

If you don't trust anyone else, get Ubuntu from here (ftp://ftp.cdimage.ubuntu.com).

I always download my ubuntu with bittorrent, there's a little link in the bottom of the download page. It goes suuuper fast, and it's nice because it'll save some nice linux mirror some bandwidth.

I think he means places where you can download packages, not the OS.
Getdeb is a good one to start off with:
http://www.getdeb.net/

extra repositories like medibuntu and lauchpad are also trustworthy

We're on the same path...

Are there bad places for Linux downloads..?

Are there vile places that abuse the Innocent in the guise of a Linux base, like so many so called windows sites do..?

Are there cruds, out there in hell, abusing Linux..?

Who are they?.. Is there a list of the cruds Linux websites, to be absolutely boycotted..? "are there bad angels mixed in with the Linux good angels"..?

Most of what you need is available in the repositories. Check out Applications-->Add/Remove programs, make sure All Available Packages is selected, or System-->Administration-->Synaptic Package Manager. The Last time I check there were over 30,000 packages available, not all of them are programs, but you should be able to find any thing you need using the search button.

It'll be a cold day in hell when I ops to download from ole "Panama Ciudad (see-u-dad) of "The Republica de Panama"... It's probably "uncle intel of the republic of americiana" desperate to get a venomous-tentacle in to this hd... Maybe if they were the last download-site on earth.. I might take their offer... This is the fifth "emailed download offer with a code" they've sent from different places around the world each...
I bet they hit send, then bounce in their chairs, and giggle, like little school-yard girlies.. like the Macon Georgia cops did when their almighty Sheriff, standing at the top of the marble steps, said to me, with a beer in his hand, as I approached the government building..
"Yah Boy! Whuch'Y'all want here in My Town?!"..
His five deputies surrounding him, like baby-ducks surround mummy-duck, all giggled like playful little girlies, some covering their mouths and blushing.. one blushing and turning away.. All with Big six shooters just uh danglin'from'n thar hips... That stopped me right in me tracks, and set me back a few feet... I sho dint wanna git too-close to them thar macon county grillas.. Ah had seen bad stuff about them kind in moovies...
Same goes for these coded email offers...
Best advice for dealing with emailed offers is to just delete them right off...

I strongly advise against installing any software you don't/can't trust. Keep to the repositories wherever possible to maintain security and stability. See https://help.ubuntu.com/8.10/add-applications/C/index.html

If you are worried, go to www.ubuntu.com and select a download site from their page. There is a drop down menu with probably 100 or more sites. I consider what Ubuntu has on their homepage safe.

If you want to install Google Earth, either download it directly from earth.google.com, or install it from the Medibuntu repository.

Go to www.ubuntu.com, select the Download Ubuntu link in upper right corner. This will take you to the download page. There is a "Choose a download location near you" drop down menu. There are numerous locations.
