Hi, I just started using Linux and I installed Ubuntu 8.10 and I want to install 8.04.

but every time I try to load the cd all it does is go to my desktop with the icon that says Ubuntu 8.04.1 i386

when i click on it it just shows me a bunch of files. can anyone tell me how to downgrade?

Put the CD in your optical drive and restart your PC. It should boot into it. If not, you have to edit your BIOS or press a button to open the boot menu.

The method proposed by Stalker72 is not a true downgrade. It will just install 8.04 over 8.10, destroying any files you don't back up. (If you have your home folder in its own partition, this is a different story.) You might want to look at this page:

You may still be better off backing up your files and reinstalling, though.

You said that I could backup my file and reinstall. How would I go about doing that. I dont care about my files, so all I need to know is how to reinstall

OK. In that case, just do what Stalker72 said. Put in the CD, reboot the PC, and install 8.04 the way you installed 8.10. If the live CD does not come up, you will have to press a key to get in to your system's BIOS and change the boot order.
