Why can't you packagers make Zero Install packages? It's supposed to be really easy.

I'm sure they could - but it's extra effort.
So for starters why don't you provide a reason why anybody should do it?
If a package is in the repository - what extra advantage do we get from having all those thousands of packages in Yet-Another-Package-Format?

ZeroInstall is available on all distros, so we can help those who don't use Debian distros like Ubuntu

True - but when you say "we" you actually meant somebody else - right? ;-)
It costs effort. Somebody has to do it. Starting a thread and telling people to do it is cheap.

Packaging has nothing to do with upstream projects. You can help all distros by doing work in the upstream projects.

I might make some zeroinstall packages... but I don't know what to package.

Here's a suggestion for you. Go to www.getdeb.net and look at the programs that they package. Start by packaging the things that they package.
