View Full Version : [ubuntu] Kernel Panic?

Hello,

A few weeks ago I partitioned a portion of my laptop and installed Ubuntu 8.10 (from a disk that came with Linux magazine). Everything has been going swimmingly until today. Now, periodically and without any consistent pattern proceeding it, the computer locks, becomes unresponsive, and the caps lock button blinks. This started shortly after installing a DLink DIR-655 router on my home network.

I am absolutely new to the Linux environment, so this has been difficult to solve. I have looked at my syslog and message files, but I don't see anything there that screams error (but I'm not sure I would recognize it if it did.) I keep seeing posts about running memtest86 from the disk, but it doesn't appear to be on it (or anywhere on the system.)

Any help in solving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time,
- Ezekiel

This is BAD. Make sure you back up your data now, then read:

Thank you for the reply. I had actually read through that post before I posted and tried the solution mentioned there. Interestingly, my computer is partitioned and the Windows side does not appear to be crashing.
