So, I am using Ubuntu9.04 (jaunty). I installed mumble using the ubuntu faq. The sound and input work great, but only when my System->Preferences->Sound window is open?! If it's not open, I can hear everyone talking, but they say I sound very distorted. Anyone have any ideas on how a window being open can clear up distortion on my mic?

Anyone have any ideas? I opened the volume-control from the console and noticed it opened what seems to be Esound? I'm on Jaunty btw.

Also wondering if this is what is cleaning up my mic distortion:

gnome-volume-control output:

** (gnome-volume-control:17578 ): DEBUG: Updating source output: index=9 name='Mumble Microphone' client=62 source=1
