I apologize if this is in the wrong forum but I'm a new Ubuntu user and I'm having a problem when trying to run Extreme Tux Racer. It is so slow (I get about 2 frames per second) that it's basically unplayable. This led me to believe I didn't have my video card's acceleration activated. However, it is activated. Here are my details:

Ubuntu 8.10
Video card: ATI Radeon 7500 All-In-Wonder with TV-out

Output of glxgears:

:~$ glxgears
6188 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1236.480 FPS
6263 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1252.433 FPS

Output of glxinfo:

My /etc/X11/xorg.conf file looks like this:

Section "Device"
Identifier "ATI Technologies, Inc. Radeon RV200 QW [Radeon 7500]"
Driver "radeon"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Configured Monitor"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Monitor "Configured Monitor"
Device "Configured Video Device"
EndSection

So it appears direct rendering is working and I get a decent FPS rate when running glxgears. However, Extreme Tux Racer is as slow as molasses. I've been able to run Tux Racer with no problem on my previous Linux install (Debian) with the same hardware. Can someone please give me a hint as to why this is happening? Thanks in advance.

I tried another OpenGL game (Flightgear) and that too is so slow it's unplayable. These games work fine in my old install of Debian but not with Ubuntu. Anyone have any ideas?
