Hi. I've been on the Ubuntu forums for a while and there's been an annoying thing bugging me. I can't use the quick reply. I try to click on the buttons in the quick reply box and anything near it by I cannot seem to activate the box.

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Which forum cateogry are you trying to post in? Some do not allow replies. Also make sure you are not blocking yahoo*.com as we use their javascript api's on the forums.

Perhaps you simply didn't select a message to reply to? Press the button on the bottom right corner of this message.

Although it has been quite awhile, I have seen this behavior appear in the past. I was able to fix it by clearing my cache and refreshing the page.

Out of curiosity, why is it necessary to hit the reply button? Do people really use threaded mode still?

I think it is partially for the checkbox in the options section for quoting the message in your reply, a feature I use very freqently, such as now. If you didn't have to click on a quick-reply button, it wouldn't know which post to quote.

Our forum doesn't have the quick reply enabled by default, though I'm pretty sure vBulletin can be configured such that you don't have to click the Quick Reply button in order to activate the response box at the bottom of the page. I've seen this on other forums using vBulletin, though I guess it could be an extra plugin that is required. I wouldn't be opposed to enabling the Quick Reply box by default.

When you quote users, you have to click the Quote button and it takes you to the advanced reply page.

Then how come I was able to quote you by checking the box labeled 'Quote message in reply?' in the options under the quick-reply textbox?

Or is that what would happen if you enabled quick-reply by default?

ACP->vBulletin Options->vBulletin Options->Message Posting and Editing Options->Quick Reply->Yes, click not required

The click is still optional, I think.
