SOLVED! The problem is my ISP. Will cancel service today.
Lately the forums seem to be very slow, it's like wading through molasses. Pages take a long time to load and some of the longer threads don't even finish loading but the status is "Done"
I know you guys have had problems but is this one of the side effects until the upgrades come?

Funny that - since the weekend I've had exactly the opposite other than a 10 minute spell about 2 hours ago.

I haven't had any problems since the recent downtime. It's been looking good.

It seems to be faster as ever.

I have felt an improvement in forum availability and speed over the last few days, so I'm not sure what is slowing you down. If you have specific threads that seem to be causing problems, please let us know so they can be looked at for corruption.

I have also felt this...

It seems that at some times it takes 1 min to load a page. Especially if I have several pages loaded.
EDIT: Though I should mention that at other times, it is lightning fast.

Never have this with Opera ;-)

I did experiance a forum hiccup earlier today where the forums slowed down for a few minutes. I feared the worst, but the worst didn't come.

Just tried loading that thread twice but it does not complete. Cleared my cache as well.
Happens with other threads as well occasionally.

Hm, I wasn't able to reproduce any problems in that thread. Can you explain in more detail and perhaps attach a screenshot?

Could it be the 900kb image not being proxied into ZA correctly? or some other arb thing.

Which picture in which post is causing problems? If it's not hosted on UF, there isn't anything wen can do about it, it could be a client side or proxy problem.

I can load the thread in under 2 seconds, so no problem here.
All images appear to be there.

Everything seems to be working just as fast as usual for me. Of course, my connection isn't the fastest, but I haven't seen any noticable difference.

Perhaps its a connectivity issues between south africa and the UK where the forums are hosted. I noticed both of you are from the same area..

Ok, looks like my traffic to the UK is being routed via the USA which is definately not right.
Apparently there was a problem between Cape Town & Ashburn, Virginia, USA. Yesterdays status indicates the problem has been fixed but I don't think so.
We have no direct cable links with the USA, traffic to the USA usually goes vie Europe of the Far East.
My ISPs after hours tech support is less usefull than a trained monkey so getting an answer from them right now is impossible.
To make may day even better the phone company decided to suspend my phone service for non-payment? Payment which was done on 9Jan2009, next bill is only due on 31Jan. Sigh... I think I'm going for a beer...

The problem is not 100% consistant, it's more prevelant on longer threads. Basically a page starts loading normally, albeit slowly, but then the page will not complete. You will see up to say post #8 but then nothing further below it, sometimes a reload helps. The browser status says "Done" indicating it completed loading the page although it is not true.
I have my "Thread Display Options" set to show 75 posts per page.
I suspect this is a network issue and will follow up with my ISP tomorrow if I can get a hold of anyone with an IQ higher than a brick.

Good luck I am busy setting up my own proxy server. Since they only proxy/cache on port 80 I think. This has become ridiculous.

drubin,
Which ISP do you use?
I sorted my problem out. I purchased an Axxess prepaid voucher at Engen this morning and everything works fine with that ADSL account. My gaming on SAIX servers now have 25ms less latency as well :)
I was with Cybersmart in Cape Town but will be cancelling my service with them today.

Lol, it sounds weird. It's actually pretty convenient as it's right around the corner from me and they have a excellent Bimbo's take-away that has good food, open 24/7/365 :) You can also buy Axxess vouchers at Pick 'n Pay which we also have in our small little town.
