Is there anything better or more recent than the gtk-pixmap engine? Or perhaps any other way to create image based themes?

I know there's a css based engine for gtk themes on the works, but it's still very incomplete and not for actual theming yet.

Not at the moment. Pixmap is all we have. What do you have against the pixmap engine though?

Nothing really. Just wondering if there are more.
Perhaps something with transparency like murrine, but I guess not

What do you mean theres only pixmap.
Where's all the other engines?

Apparently Ubuntu uses Murrine.
Crux engine is also there.
Clearlooks is also there.

There is also the Nodoka engine, and the Aurora engine which was a fork of the Murrine engine.

I was asking for engines like pixmap.

Image based themes seem to be the most versatile so far (not that I dislike murrine and the rest), though, and until the css engine comes along there's nothing other than gtk pixmap engine, it seems.

Does anyone know if there is any good documentation out there about how to theme using the pixmap engine? Because it's a little difficult trying to disect an existing pixmap theme in order to make a new one.
