Hey all. I've been looking around for a solution to 5.1 and have found many having to change the .asoundrc or .asound.conf files which seem to be consistent with a sound card.

My motherboard can do 5.1 sound because I had it going in Windows, and as of now I have 2.1 audio. I left the jacks in the same place when I made the switch to Ubuntu and now only have 2.1.

So far, I've right-clicked on the speaker icon in the upper-right and have made sure that the surround and center channels were activated and had volume, but to no avail.

Anyone have any ideas as to what I should try next?

im having the exact same problem with only difference that the front speakers are playing but sub-woofer, center and rear not. Sub-woofer is connected to the center speaker as i understood from windows.
In windows changing to 5.1 is just changing an option but here i think it will be more complicated, considering that i have also pulse audio
