Hello there

I can't set dxlevel in that game mentioned in title. See, I've got integrated graphics card (nvidia one) and I need about dxlevel 70 to get the hl2 work properly (fast). Otherwise, on dxlevel 80 or 90 the game runs reaaaly slow. It's simple. But the problem is, that on half life 2 i could set dxlevel and on episode one i can't. I used to run hl2 from terminal with command like "wine "C:/.../hl2.exe" -dxlevel 70 -novid" and it worked just fine, and runned without video (valve logo on startup). But when I try it with ep1 it doesn't change anything. The game runs with video and runs really slow. I also tried to set dxlevel by putting "dxlevel 70" in HL2 EP1 desktop shortcut/properties/command, also without effect. Typing dxlevel 70 in a in-game console either didn't work, console tells me that there is no such command, but it did the same thing in hl2.
Well then, I don't have a clue how to run my ep1 properly, it seems like this game doesn't care whatever I write in command in terminal.
Ah, and forgot to mention. Both games (hl2 and ep1) are standalone ones. Wich means they are simple .exe's , no steam or such lunchers.
Maybe this problem is not about the dxlevel? Maybe it is set but something else causes the game to run so slow?

1. Run steam
2. Go to your games menu
3. Right click on the game you want to change
4. Click on properties
5. Click on Set launch options
6. Type in -dxlevel 70
7. Click on OK.

If that does not work it might be because the game requires -dxlevel 80 or more.

Yeah, but I mentioned that I don't have steam, only standalone games. I tried to run with steam but I couldn't crack it, because to crack it there is need to run a .bat file, which doesn't go on ubuntu.
(If there is no permission to talk on such subjects as "cracked" or "illegal" then sorry)

How did you get HL2 Episode 1 as a standalone .exe file????

These came with steam delivery software included, if they have stripped out for what ever reason i would suggest that they are not in accordance with eh EULA, and possibly non original.

Come on man, you honestly think we will help you run an illegal version of the game? Go buy it. The developers deserve your money for this wonderful game. Once you do that, you will have Steam, you will have the proper launchers, and it will work. I predict a locked thread in a short while.

I see, that would certainly make '1. Run steam' harder. ;)

I would like change my tips as follows:

1. Buy the game.
2. Run steam
3. Go to your games menu
4. Right click on the game you want to change
5. Click on properties
6. Click on Set launch options
7. Type in -dxlevel 70
8. Click on OK.
