How to connec to a DV recorder ?

I get a Sony DV recorder and would like to transfer the video from the tape to the computer in Ubuntu. However, what software should I use and how can it(Ubuntu and the software) to detect the Sony recorder ? I use IEEE as an interface .

Kino should do it all.

Basically a DV recorder is like a DV camera, and my little Sony works flawlessly with Kino.
Unfortunately my camera cannot record from firewire (a typical European limit), but grabbing is a breeze.

First of all check about the firewire port settings in the wiki, there are a couple of steps to be done, but it works fine on my 8.04.
