I went to thank somebody for a suggestion they made to help me out and lo and behold it's gone? Is it coming back. I also noticed that the number times folks have been thanked has disappeared too. I thought that was a neat feature. Oh well what can you do?

The Thanks plugin and marking threads as solved have been temporarily disabled while ubuntu-geek and the guys over at Canonical work through the database issues we've been having.

It's not yet known for certain if and when these 2 features will be returning :)

Also - moved to Forum Feedback & Help :)

sorry io have to ask. when is the forums back to normal again. i can not see that well since my eyes got operated so i mispell to much which i used to be able to quick edit before. and there was a prewiew feature also. i am also very happy to recieve help and i use the thanks button alot. this way i can go back to the helpful post others have posted for me rather than using the search feature which i can have problems with since it asks some questions and there is other things i can not see that well.
i hope the forums as i know it will be back soon. i am not complainting but i miss the "old" forums as i remember it to be :)

You can get the preview by either using New Reply or Quick Reply and then Go Advanced.

I don't know whether the thanks or the thread solved tools will return - but I guess that if they can they will.

When the new hardware arrives and gets installed then I expect they'll be able to look at it.

You might find it easier to use a search engine I use http://www.googlubuntu.com/ and http://www.uboontu.com/ myself mostly, both of them have ff plugins.

I used to mark posts as "SOLVED" with thread tools, but that seems no longer an option. Is there something wrong, or did the forum just quit marking altogether because of poor participation?

No, the forum did not quit marking altogether because of poor participation. In fact, forum members had done a great deal of participation in answering questions/queries thrown by other members. Hopefully, the web administrator will bring it back soon as this will lessen the time on searching for possible solutions as (answered) old threads will be read as "SOLVED".

hi,

the function is currently unavailable because of maintenance work on the forums.

Usually it is in the Thread Tools.

starcannon
January 25th, 2009, 06:10 AM
While the Thread Tools solution is broken, you can still manually mark your thread solved by clicking "edit" on the first post of your thread, then "Advanced Edit" in the editor gui, then add the word "SOLVED" to the thread title, then click Save.

GL and have fun.

G'day all, and Happy Australia Day!!! Just wondering if anyone can tell me how to thank someone for help and mark a post as solved.

ubuntu-geek has a post about this feature being temporarily unavailable, but I was aondering how it used to be done for future reference and also for when it comes back on line.

And remember, this is Australia day....I'm getting off the computer today and exersising my democratic right to burn sausages on the barby, drink a few beers, and "give dead arms". (Yes the ad was a bit yobbo-ish but just so true!)

That doesn't seem to work for me... I found the solution to a problem I posted in a thread a couple of days ago. I tried both adding "[SOLVED]" in front of the thread title and "SOLVED" after the thread title. The title does change in the thread itself, but not in for instance search results.

No longer isn't quite correct. They will be re-enabling it, so it's more "You can't mark threads as solved right now." "No longer" implies that it will never be re-enabled.

This thread has been going for two weeks, and still no resolution? Wazzup wi dat? "Thanks" are nice, and should work, but marking threads as "SOLVED" seems like kind of an important function to be dead for so long. Seems like a good idea to have this feature working so people don't waste their time responding to issues that have already been solved. Am I wrong?](*,)

i read the sticky about this issue, and it says "...soon as we understand these features were popular" which sounds pretty fair to me.

shouldn't there be a poll so that we know how useful this was to the forum?

i personally think that it's nice to have a little reward for a useful answer. For others it may be a motive to asnwer others and not just post questions...

i see the poll as the best choice for now

I'll admit it is not a total solution. It doesn't show on the main page but does display as soon as the thread is opened.

The other thing that works (marginally) is to edit the first post and enter "Solved: " as the first word. Again it doesn't show in the Forum titles but if you are reading the preview 'balloon' it is displayed and will tell the reader that the question/problem no longer needs a response.
