Hi, does anyone know a step by step on how to install steam on ubuntu 8.1?

There you go :) You may want to delete this thread though, the mods delete threads regarding wine in this section. (We have a section for just wine :P)

It's probably easiest to install PlayOnLinux first then install steam threw it. It will take care of all the installation tweaks plus makes it easy to set up wine prefixes for other wine games/apps you install later.

I got Steam to install fine on WINE & all went well until I tried to play the games I downloaded which none of them were playable threw WINE. I got Deleta Force land Warrior playable but then lost sound... Does anyone else use steam with WINE? If so are you able to play Counter-Strike: Source on it?

Playonlinux is just a graphical front end for installing games on wine.
But to answer your question yes I run steam under wine. Steam itself is pretty sluggish but once the games start they play fine. CS:S plays perfect as does all the other source engined games I've tried.

I have already installed WINE is it a problem to install the PlayOnLinux over it?
