Running Ubuntu 8.10. My usb mouse is not detected properly at boot time, and the only fix is to ungplug mouse from PC and plug it back, then it works just great.. until next reboot. Is there a way to imitate with some script usb hid devices redetection or just imitate unplugging and plugging back my usb hid devices?

Did you solve this problem?
I have the same issue -- unplug/replug the keyboard, then it works.

I've been having this problem with my USB mouse since 7.10! Then it got solved on its own after upgrading to 8.04; but then it came back when upgrading to 8.10, and I've been hoping it would get fixed with new upgrades ever since. But, after upgrading to 9.10, it still happens.
I have the mouse plugged into a USB hub for convenience, since it'd be a pain to have to crawl behind the desk to unplug it and plug it again every time I reboot. :???:
So, in other words: BUMP!
Anyone's got any idea how to solve this?
