I have been running WoW in wine since I got my new PC. It's an AMD quad-core with 8G of ram, and had Vista64 pre-installed. I only used Vista for playing Wow, but had constant hardlocks. Installing/running under Wine has drastically reduced these occurrences, but it still happens, especially when things get heated in-game.
I read on the Wine page that this may be due to the fact that I have 8G of ram and WoW can only see 4G. This could possibly have been a similar issue in Vista, I guess. They suggest setting up a second user acct and having it set to only use 4G or less ram, then logging into it to play WoW or other 32-bit games.
I have spent two months jumping through just about every hoop out there, and once again, Linux has given me the most progress (WoW was the only reason I still have Windows).
So, the question is How do I create a user acct that only uses 4G of ram in Ubuntu?
