From 7.10 to 8.04 to 8.10... and the same problem still persists.....
VLC is extremely slowww!!!!!
--When it is kept over Firefox (Always on top) the screen flickers.
--When it is in the full screen, the menu on "Right Click" does not come up!

Is there some bug... Please fix this out. I'm really in help!!

I updated my RAM from 512MB to 3.5GB (YES!!!) but no difference in vlc though!

Also, Its a Pentium D Processor...
vlc is 0.9.4, which comes by default in ubuntu 8.10 upgradation

I suggest you try setting window effects to "none".

Also, what speed processr do you have?

if it is an upgrade all through (no clean install) try vlc on live CD. if it works, it is probably time to install interpid clean.

Before that, you may also want to run cvlc to run without any preset and check, if that works, may be somethign in user setttings. clear it up.

Also, like blueridgedog suggested, disable desktop effects and check too.

Finally, there is something called tools>messages window (CTRL+M). see if there are any messages dropped there..

Let us know what you found!

Do you have restricted drivers installed for your video card? What are your system specs?
