View Full Version : [ubuntu] 8.10 T61p Suspend, Black Screen on resume
January 16th, 2009, 08:24 PM
I had previously upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10 on my T61p laptop but was having some issue, mainly with network manager. So I got a new hard drive and did a clean install of 8.10 and to my surprise the suspend does not work. When I try to resume I get a black screen, it appears as that I can log on (hard drive activity after typing password) but as though graphics card is off.
I also tried 9.04 with same problems, and did another reinstall of 8.10 to confirm problem before software updates and after. Also confirm that no Nvidia drivers installed (known problem with 180.22 and suspend).
Anybody have any suggestions as to problem or where to look?

/swap=1.5 of your RAM is one of the things to look for.

Thanks for the reply!
I have 12GB of swap with 4GB ram.
The links you sent are for Gutsy, which uses acpi_suspend, 8.10 uses pm_utils thus are irrelevent. Also the bug #273762 are for 8.04 and have been rolled into 8.10.
I went back and did some searching and remembered that the suspend did not work with 8.10 when I upgraded until I installed the proposed repository. Thus I am going to try that.

I added the following sources:
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid-proposed restricted main universe multiverse
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/network-manager/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/network-manager/ubuntu intrepid main
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/doctormo/ubuntu intrepid main
# PulseAudio Fixes - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=789578
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/psyke83/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/psyke83/ubuntu intrepid main
# deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/jsteinhart/ubuntu intrepid main universe multiverse restricted
# deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/jsteinhart/ubuntu intrepid main universe multiverse restricted\
Did and update and suspend now works on the T61p 6459 CTO laptop.
