Hello all,

I recently installed Ubuntu 8.10 via Wubi on my mother's new laptop when her Vista couldn't use the internet. So far everything has been working fine; the drivers work, Skype works, she has adapted to the new interfaces, etc. The only problem that she has is that of migrating from various Windows applications (Outlook, for example). I installed Wine to run the programs, but they all run as if for the first time, with none of her saved preferences or information.

So, my question to you is this: How can I configure Wine to run her Windows applications as if she were logged into Windows with her own user profile, with her saved settings and everything?

Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,
maxnick

Depending on the program, if it works fine on Wine you should be able to just move over the installs from the windows system most times. Or if you already have it installed under Wine just move over the files containing the save data I would think.

But as for outlook there are many native Linux apps that do the same thing (Thunderbird is one that is like Outlook I believe) www.osalt.com has a good list of alternate programs
