i did a fresh install of jaunty using today 1/15 daily build, desktop version, and having made no changes to networking settings, simply connecting to the internet, issued a sudo apt-get update, it seems to have failed with the following error message:
http://pastebin.ca/1309363
firefox however, works fine. someone on #ubuntu+1 suspected proxy settings. they were set to default -- direct internet connection being a fresh install, so that wasn't it. pigdin, also, would not establish a connection to freenode oddly, though firefox, is working just fine.
i also tried disabled ufw from the command line, and that had no effect whatsoever. i'm stumped. i'm really love to try and fix this.
there is nothing unusual about my /etc/apt/sources.list either. it was generated by ubuntu on the fresh install. i even tried to have it 'select the best server' and it fails at the end of the test.
<update>
my router was not dropping its opendns configuration until it was forcibly rebooted. because of that, it wouldn't connect to the ubuntu servers :( so sorry. problem wasn't jaunty at all.
