I really relied on these forums when I first installed Ubuntu a few years ago. As a result, I've been using Ubuntu happily on all my machines for the past few years, and stopped visiting here.
However, the last few days I was doing some upgrades to my PC, (installed a nice new SSD -- fast, fast better than a CPU upgrade if you're interested :-) ), moved some partitions around, and upgraded to Intrepid.... and really needed to visit these forums to get some questions answered.
.. and they were down... .. and down... again. Several times over several days. And it sucked! It made me realise how much I rely on these forums for information, and on Ubuntu in general, and don't bother to give back much when everything's going OK.
So I come on here today to see what the problem was... I see the Forum Feedback full of bugs... youch! I've run a few forums before (I wrote and maintained a popular add-on mod for phpBB for a while), and can just imagine how much it really, really sucks to try to maintain a busy forum that keeps going down due to database errors :-) .
I remember working on that thing for days, implementing great new features and fixing bugs, only to have 1 user in 100 unable to log in due to some unfortunate untested browser-cookie concoction. For a while my host was unable to keep up in demand for a site, resulting in unfortunate Server 500 errors, and leading to occasional database corruption, right when you least expect it.
Yeah, it sucks... sucks for you Admins (UbuntuGeek?) and staff, and sucks for us users.
I just wanted you to know how much people like me (people who take this forum for granted and happily use Ubuntu) appreciate the work you put in. Even if it's thankless work, there must be thousands of users quietly grateful.
Thank you!
I hope you manage to get the forum back on track soon and then keep up the good work! :P
