Just make the server accessable to the internet by forwarding ports on your router. Simply put the media files in your /var/www folder and you can access them from remote web sites.

If I do that it'll download the media, not stream it.

I would like to figure this out as well, I've seen it done in ASP on IIS. Although you could do it now via some sort of Shoutcast in Audacious or maybe even Amarok.

Unless you have specific needs, try out Jinzora (http://http://en.jinzora.com/) media player/streamer. It runs off port 80 and only requires MySQL. It is solid for me. I stream all day at work and you do not have to move anything into your Server Directory. Gnump3d is another streaming media option, but it installs another server. Jinzora really is great.

I wanna stream MP3 and MPEG4 from my website. I know years and years ago I did it with Windows 98, Real Audio, & Front Page.
