hi, i was a mac user before start the ubuntu and i have my little friend ColorClassic still runs ...
so, before i start ubuntu and it since 1,5 years ago, when i had been needed to print my ms word documents , i have been saved that file with .doc at the end of document; like paper.doc - it does not matter through the msword or by hand after saving it, i.e. manually. after that i put it on 3,5" diskette and go the nearest friends windows to open it with ms word and print it. BUT after closing that file the ms word always says that this file is in ms word 5.1 for mac format, do you want to save it for ms word 97/2000/XP ?...
yesterday i want one of that ms word documents sitting on my ColorClassic to transfer to my ubuntu. i made it looks like ms word .doc format, then copied it to my desktop and tried to open it through ooo. at the begining the ooo asked me for the caracter encoding. i tried most of them, but not all of my caracters in that file do not appears, only small frames...
may be i need at first transfer it to the "nearest friend's windows" to save it ms word's 97/2000/XP format and after that transfer it to ooo?
today if i get a little non-busy time, i will try it.
but i can not find any suggestions at this forum. if you find smt. like this, please inform me. i do not want to depend or belong to the windows...
best regards

You might have better luck using the .rtf file format. It's less version/software specific than those trendy .doc files.
