i have installed ubuntu 8.10 recently and i am having problems every time i try to open a video.
i tried to install all the codecs i found but still when i play a video i get multiple green screens and a lot of lines but the sound is OK. i installed an avi codec and when i play an avi video i got the same thing .

i also have problems with any flash game (it is very slow) although i installed the latest version .

by the way i used to play flash games and watch the same videos in windows xp (i dont want to go back there plez help)
any help will be very much appreciated...

We need more hardware info.

What video hardware are you using?
What driver is installed for it?
Give us the output of:

glxinfo | grep rendering
