So for christmas I got an IPod Touch second generation. I tried syncing it on linux and no luck (tried wine and virtualbox). So I reinstalled windows :(. I pretty much hate it right now and I really want to go back to linux, but I don't want to dualboot (hard drive's kinda small).
So my question is how do all of you with the Ipod touch 2g do it? wine? virtualbox?
Also even if I could just get it to recognize it, so it could charge would be alright I guess. But I would really only like to do that as a last resort.

P.S. I usually use arch or debian, mainly arch.

You seriously reinstalled Windows just to get your MID to sync with your computer? I would normally recommend jailbreaking it, but as of now this is a bit impossible on the 2G iPod Touch. Maybe you could wait until a jailbreak comes out for the 2G and then use someone else's computer to jailbreak it?

I believe that it will charge in Linux, but that's about all you can do right now. Currently, I use someone else's computer to sync my iPod Touch. Not the best solution, but it works.

Well you need to sync it to iTunes before you can even use it. I'd temporarily remove Linux to activate/sync my iPod Touch if I had to.

Do a tinyXP install (very small and ripped copy of windows XP) and use the windows partition to store all your music on

In linux you just mount the windows partition and you can play the music easily from inside linux

Thank you all. Right now I'm pretty much doing everything you guys said. I'm dual booting with a small xp install. But I'll probably just remove that and use my parents/home computer to sync, it has most of my music on it already anyways.
