i have ubuntu and am using banshee to manage my music. when banshee is open and i plug my ipod in it shows up on my desktop but won’t show up within banshee. I have a nano, and i think its 1st or 2nd generation. I tried the “sudo…” command and it still isn’t showing up. anyone have any tips? thanks.

Well the most sucsess with an iPod on Linux is with the GIANT "Classic" ones and the First Gen... First you got to Brick it or "Hack" to make it usable with Linux/Ubuntu you can google it and actually ive seen people with Linux on the iPod search around the forums or google your question first then if you still cant find whats up then let us know. :)

Scratch what i just posted cuz im a Dumb@$$... use an iPod management tool your iPod will most likley come up on there since you have a 2nd Gen one... go to the Terminal in Applications>Accesories>Terminal
Type "sudo apt-get install gtkpod"
or "sudo apt-get install hipo_ipod_management_tool"
id go with GTKpod its much better
