Hi all!
I set up a machine with Ubuntu for a relative, and this youngster likes to play some games between the studies.
Does anyone know of good game repos for Debian/Ubuntu. I have the university enabled, but are there more? Didn't find for example globnulation or scourge?
Of course, it might be so that there are no debs for these games...

Not that i know off :(
Actually that is a good idea starting a game-repository.
Ill try to look into info about setting up a repo in the next week.
Don't have time this weekend.

You could also
$ sudo apt-get install zsnes
And play some SNES games. :D

What SNES games does it have?

ZSNES is like MAME in that you need to get the games/ROMs elsewhere. They're just emulators.

Do they give you a website where you download the emulaters? Do you get the emulater from Ubuntu's systemic (or whatever it's called) update package system?

Both of those emulators & many others are available in multiverse/universe.
You should check out the KnoppiXMAME project.

The emulators are in apt, the roms aren't :)

I used to have a CD full of about 250 Nintendo roms for Windows. If I found the cd would I be able to use them on Linux? Or does each emulator use a different type of rom even if they are playing the same game?

The roms will work on both platforms. I personally have used zsnes on both Linux and Windows to play the same rom.

Dunno if ZSNES plays NES roms though. Globulation is in the repos. Load up synaptic and check out the games, there's tons there. Even I like tuxpaint.
If you're building it for a kiddo, just grab all the nifty games you can find and install them. I agree it would be nicer if there were some repos floating around that streamlined the installation process. I have a tendency to forget what apps I have installed when they aren't in front of my face in a menu.

Remember of course that ROMs are pretty much illegal in most countries.
A shame, but there we are :(
