The Kubuntu Gaming, PPC, and AMD64 boards seem unnecessary. There isn't much Kubuntu specific going on in those boards. They don't get much traffic. They just seem like a place for a poor new Kubuntu user to be ignored. I know I'm generally not going to bother posting in them anymore. And I'm rarely going to peek in to see if I can answer questions.

I posted a ppc question to Kubuntu PPC a few weeks back, but I didn't get any responses there. I ended up duplicating my post in Ubuntu PPC. Issues with a specific architecture generally seem to be generic Ubuntu issues.

I suggest unifying those three boards and their Gnome Ubuntu counterparts, and only keeping the "Desktop" boards segregated.

The Kubuntu users at one time were pretty angry at the lack of attention towards the distribution, and there was even a fork and a new forum established for Kubuntu users.

Naturally, we don't want our community to split off, for the overall unity of Ubuntu/Kubuntu/*buntu, so we asked Kubuntu users what they'd like to see from the forums. We agreed on a KUbuntu theme and those separate and distinct Kubuntu sections.

The kubuntu gaming section at least is pretty pointless. Can you find some way of respecting kubuntu and merging some of this stuff?

Kubuntu users: opinions?

Ah, I'm unfamiliar with the history of the situation. Is it time for a reevaluation of parts that agreement? The current setup with those three boards does not seem to be favorable to Kubuntu users.

Who were the principals involved in the Kubuntu conflict? Maybe they could be brought back to the table, or a poll could be done.

Is there a worry that the Kubuntu posts will be drowned out in the unified boards? There do seem to be a few posts that might be KDE specific. But the vast majority look like they could benefit from the extra eyes of Gnome Ubuntu users. Will those few posts be neglected? I'm not sure, but I really don't think they would.

Is it a matter of branding? If those boards unified maybe rebranding them to strongly indicate that they are kubuntu/ubuntu/*buntu boards would do? We already seem to have generic hardware boards.

I am speaking as a Kubuntu user myself. I hope I'm not overstepping my bounds as a complete newcomer to the forums. As a newcomer I might getting a wrong impression of the situation. I have no idea what it was like before.

It may be a good time to re-evaluate how effective we have been at making KUbuntu users feel at home. However, I've yet to see any solid evidence of mass duplication of efforts that would make this a "problem" by any measure.

The initial problem was that Kubuntu wasn't getting as much respect as Ubuntu, and that led to the perception that we do not care about KUbuntu users. We don't want to portray that image at all.

Not just branding, it seems like. The administration of the other forum is not interested in merging back with us (at least the last time I've dealt with this issue). I don't know how they feel now, or exactly what about Ubuntuforums.org is not being appreciated.

I think we are fostering an excellent environment for all users of Ubuntu.

As far as branding, it's very confusing to me, too. Does "Ubuntu" indicate the GNOME-based default distribution, or encompass the entire repository, in which case KUbuntu/Xubuntu CD-ROMs are different subsets of packages.

NOTE: Please don't interpret that statement as me being underappreciative of Kubuntu/*buntu efforts. These sub-teams in the Ubuntu community are strongly organized and do a great amount of work that we all have to appreciate, regardless of whether we use the packages or not.

No, everyone's welcome to express opinions here.
