You will need to boot from the DVD to get started.

most important piece of information you forgot to put in was what Processor are you using? Are you replacing OSX or plan on using VMware? Dual Booting? what are you doing? if your using a PowerPC Mac Mini then you just wasted money on a ubuntu disc... ubuntu doesnt officially support PowerPC computers. But the Community Picked up for Ubuntus slack and made and DOWNLOADABLE ISO THAT YOU BURN TO A CDR OF AT LEAST 700MB post some more information about your computer so we can help you out more :)

What you will need to do is to download the ppc iso; see sticky at the top for location of source. Sorry I didn't ask which processor you had earlier, you would be further along in the process. See threads about a work around on installation from the alternate iso when installing. Good luck.

If you have a powerpc mac you need the powerpc live disk or the powerpc alt. install disk to install Ubuntu. The bootloader that you will use is yaboot and it is on the disk. The only reason I can think of that you might need the DVD of the repositories is if you do not have internet. You can get all you apps and updates from the repositories as you want them. but then maybe I am not understanding what you want to do.

If you have a mac the easiest way to burn is with disk utility. Takes about 4n minutes. If you have downloaded on another machine just carry the download on a usb stick to the mac and burn it. You don't need to open it, convert it, decompress it or anything else. A little google search will find how to burn an image with the machine you are using.
